LOS ANGELES – It was a particularly emotional evening on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert returned to the ballroom to dance for the first time since undergoing brain surgery last year.

“I guarantee you there won’t be a dry eye in the audience,” said professional dancer Alan Bersten.

Erbert had quite a scare last year. While on tour with Derek, she had to undergo emergency surgery for a bleeding skull. Luckily she has recovered and returns to the ballroom.

“I’m just grateful to be here and have the opportunity to dance with my wife again,” Hough said. “And to start telling the story. The whole story.”

The couple is currently embarking on a new tour and celebrating the holidays.

“This is not your typical Christmas show. “It’s going to be pretty epic,” Hough said.

Erbert appears in the Christmas show with her husband.

Derek and Hayley's DWTS colleagues and the rest of the fans can't wait to see them on the dance floor.

“I know I'm going to cry watching her dance,” Jenna Johnson said. “I can’t wait to see what they do.”

“She thought she would never dance again,” Sasha Farber said. “It's going to be a beautiful celebration and seeing her back in the ballroom dancing with Derek… very inspiring.”

“It's so meaningful. It’s more than just dance, it’s life,” Bersten said.
