Dan Campbell: Jameson Williams is worth being with

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said last week that the team would support Wide receiver Jameson Williams following his two-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug violation and delivered another message of support for Williams on Wednesday.

Williams is at the door a fee for carrying a concealed weapon after he was found to be in possession of a weapon during a traffic stop earlier this month. Williams was released at the time of the stop without being arrested or cited, and Detroit police are investigating why that was.

The Lions released a statement saying Williams had informed them of the incident, and Campbell said the same thing at the start of his press conference. Campbell acknowledged that it “certainly doesn't look good” but that “we're doing well with Williams” because he was honest with the team. Campbell was then asked whether he thinks Williams, who was also banned in 2023 and now faces another ban, is aware of how quickly his career could end due to ongoing off-field issues.

“I think he does,” Campbell said. “I think he's become more aware of that over time, and I think he does. For me, I judge people by what is in their heart. I know what this kid is made of and he's worth hanging out with. He’ll learn from it, he’ll grow, he’ll get through it all better.”

Williams is serving the second game of his PED suspension this week, so the Lions will be without him in their attempt to beat the Packers.
