Cynthia Erivo has seen the Internet Evil memes, and she's not a fan.

On Wednesday (October 16), the singer and actress posted some of the viral edits to the upcoming film's new poster, which shows Erivo staring into the camera while co-star Ariana Grande whispers in her ear in a reimagining of the original Broadway poster Evil Musical. However, when the new poster was released earlier this month, some fans were unhappy that it wasn't a more accurate replica, leading people to edit the new poster to look more similar to the original – but Erivo is letting it not to fly that.

“This is the wildest, most offensive thing I’ve ever seen,” said the artist – his album Cape. 1 vs. 1 reached number 77 on the top album sales charts in 2021 – and shared one of the changes on her Instagram story. “The original poster is an ILLUSTRATION. I am a real human being who has chosen to look directly through the camera at you, the viewer… because without words, we communicate with our eyes.”

“Our poster is a homage, not an imitation. To edit my face and hide my eyes is to erase me,” she continued. “And that’s just deeply hurtful.”

Erivo added that the edited posters were “on par with the terrible AI of us fighting” – referring to a viral AI-generated video depicting a fight between the EGOT winner and “So what?” animated. Singer using her likeness on the movie poster – and “same as” an earlier meme that jokes about the color of her famously green-skinned character's private parts. “None of this is funny,” she wrote. “None of this is sweet. It humiliates me. It demeans us.”

The Pinocchio Star plays Elphaba – also known as the Wicked Witch of the West – in the upcoming film duology, the first part of which hits theaters on November 22nd. Grande stars as Glinda, the Good Witch, with Jeff Goldblum, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang and Ethan Slater rounding out the cast.

After giving her input on the changes, Erivo shared the Evil The film's actual poster about her story is meant to “cleanse your palate,” she told viewers. About three hours later, Grande also shared the poster on her own Story.
