House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., criticized Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., on Friday, calling him “the ultimate hypocrite” in response to a new report in which Raskin failed to commit to to confirm a potential 2024 president victory for former President Trump.

“Ranking member Raskin is the ultimate hypocrite,” Comer told Fox News Digital. “He talks big about 'saving democracy' but actively undermines it by sowing doubt about America's free and fair elections when it benefits him to do so.”

Comer criticized Raskin as a “two-time election denier” and said Raskin “made the case that the 2000 election was illegitimate and did not certify the election results when Trump won the White House in 2016.”

“Now Raskin is signaling he would do the same if Trump wins again in November. Democracy is not important to Raskin at all. “All he cares about is getting a Democrat into the White House at any cost,” Comer said.

Raskin, the top Democrat on the committee and a former Jan. 6 committee member, told Axios in a report published Thursday that if former President Trump “won a free, fair and honest election, of course we would accept that,” in the report It goes on to say that Raskin said he “definitely” does not expect the former president to use “free, fair and honest means” to win the Oval Office.

Trump is “doing everything he can to try to interfere in the process, whether we're talking about manipulating the vote count in Nebraska or manipulating the vote count in Georgia or introducing other types of obstacles,” Raskin said to Axios.

Several other Democratic congressmen shared Raskin's views, including Illinois Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Massachusetts Rep. Jim McGovern. McGovern told Axios that Democrats would certify a Trump victory “assuming everything goes the way we expect.”

Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., also called the Democrats' statements “the most predictable hypocrisy in politics.”

“After years of the radical left's stenographers in the mainstream media, corporate interest groups, and radical Democrats viciously lambasting President Trump and Republicans for their advocacy of election integrity, now with 24 days until Election Day, they claim that “There will be a victory for President Trump.” would be illegitimate and the mainstream media will be silent,” Stefanik told Fox News Digital.

Raskin responded to the criticism in a statement to Fox News Digital, saying: “The Democratic Party is a party of democracy and the rule of law. We stand by both of them.”

“Trump and his supporters have attempted to use fraud, deception, lies, coercion, trickery, voter suppression and mass insurrectionary violence to seize power contrary to the rules of our constitutional order,” Raskin said. “I will never back down from defending America’s constitutional democracy against its big lies, political coups and violent insurrections. And I'm certainly not going to mess with Chairman Comer and call him a hypocrite, because that would mean he has betrayed some principles and ideals.”

Top Democrats criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson last month after he was asked whether he would commit to regular order in certifying the election results if Vice President Kamala Harris won.

“Of course – if we have free, fair and secure elections, we will abide by the constitution. Absolutely. Yes. Absolutely,” Johnson said.

Election certification was also raised during the vice presidential debate a few weeks ago when Senator JD Vance was pressured over previous comments that he would not have voted to certify the 2020 election results in January 2021.

Vance hit back at the claim that Trump could prove to be a “threat to democracy,” saying he believes “we actually have a threat to democracy in this country” in the form of censorship.
