CNN's Tapper fact-checks Harris live on Trump's quote about protecting women: “Just quote him exactly.”

CNN's Jake Tapper gave a live fact check on Vice President Kamala Harris after she claimed that former President Trump said he would “do whatever he wants” whether “the women like it or not.”

At a rally in Phoenix, Arizona, on Thursday, Harris asserted that Trump would do whatever he wanted on abortion restrictions and the surveillance of women's bodies.

“Now, one in three women in America live in a state with a Trump abortion ban, many with no exceptions, even for rape and incest, which is immoral. And Donald Trump isn't done yet. Did everyone hear what he just said yesterday? This.” “He'll do whatever he wants,” quote, and here I quote: “Whether the women like it or not,” Harris said.

She continued: “We have to choose because that’s the thing. You know, there's a saying that you have to listen to people when they tell you who you are, and this isn't the first time he's told us who he is.” He doesn't believe women have freedom of choice and should have authority to make decisions about their own bodies.

KAMALA HARRIS TELLS BLACK VOTERS: 'Don't think you're in Donald Trump's club'

Trump's comments were about how he would “protect women” from illegal immigrants pouring in through Harris' border policies.

“Kamala has imported criminal migrants from prisons and jails, from mental asylums and mental institutions around the world from Venezuela to Congo, including brutal criminals who attack, rape and murder our women and girls. Anyone who lets monsters kidnap and kill them.” “Our children don’t belong near the Oval Office,” Trump said at a rally.

Trump added: “I’m going to do it whether women like it or not. I will protect her.”

After Tapper played the clip from Harris' rally, he corrected the vice president, adding that she had left out context.

“When Trump said he would do something for women whether they like it or not, whether women like it or not, he was talking about protecting women, protecting women whether they like it or not. “Of course you can object with the language, but he didn't say he would just do whatever he wanted no matter,” Tapper said.

After his panel on “The Lead” chuckled at his fact-checking, Tapper followed up with, “I mean, but you know what I mean. He says I will protect them whether these women want me to protect them.”

Democratic strategist Karen Finney noted, “Some would say this is misogynistic…”

“It’s not how she portrayed it,” Tapper said.

“Ultimately, I think we need to be careful in these last few days. We did that in 2016,” Finney said. “He's going to say something terrible, ridiculous-“

“So just quote it exactly.” Tapper interrupted him.

“That’s not my point,” Finney continued. “I just don't think we need to say every update because the point is what she wanted, which is that we know who this guy is. This is not someone who respects women. That being said, I'm sorry, I think the Puerto Rico promotion or General Kelly's comments fall into a different category.

Harris interpreted Trump's statements in a post on X just as inaccurately.

“Donald Trump thinks he should be allowed to decide what you do with your body. Whether you like it or not,” Harris wrote while sharing a clip of Trump’s speech.
