CNN Data Reporter tackles popular 'panic' with 'very clear' signs of Harris victory

CNN senior political data reporter Harry Enten reassured “panicked” Democrats on Monday that Kamala Harris has clear paths to winning the presidential election.

Enten, in an appearance alongside “OutFront” host Erin Burnett, pointed to polls that showed more Harris voters – 52% – would be angry if Donald Trump won, compared to 42% of Trump voters who would be angry if the vice president won.

He suggested this might explain what he said was an unnecessary “democratic panic.”

“I think Democrats feel like there's a lot more at stake in this election and that's why they're panicking, even though the polls at this point are saying, 'Cálmate por favor,'” he said.

Burnett had cited a recent Washington Post poll earlier in the segment that showed Harris and Trump in what she called a “dead heat” for Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

Enten argued that the vice president could turn all three of those battleground states blue and make his way to the Oval Office.

“So she has a very clear path to 270 electoral votes,” Enten said, before pointing to Harris' narrow lead in a summary of polls from those states.

He continued: “The bottom line is that I don’t understand the Democrats’ panic right now because the path is clear!”

Burnett emphasized that in Enten's scenario, Harris would not have to win in the Sun Belt states of Nevada, Arizona, North Carolina and Georgia.

Enten said those states are mostly states where a collection of polls has Trump holding the lead “well within” the margin of error. (This excludes Nevada, where Harris was ahead by less than one percentage point).

He said that if Harris wins, the four states could “actually still” give her the votes needed to win in November, even if Trump wins Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania.
