“Cleveland Cavaliers trade star players to Lakers after wild idea”

The Cleveland Cavaliers are off to an impressive 2-0 start this season and their roster looks very strong, even though the team didn't make any major additions over the summer.

But could the Cavaliers still decide to make a significant trade before the February deadline?

That's certainly not out of the question, especially if things don't go exactly according to plan in Cleveland.

Michael Pina of The Ringer made a very interesting trade proposal with the Los Angeles Lakers in which the Cavs would send Jarrett Allen to the Lakers in exchange for D'Angelo Russell, Christian Wood, two first-round draft picks and a pick- exchange or Rui Hachimura and Dalton Knecht.

That would be quite a haul for the Cavaliers and actually makes sense from a stylistic perspective.

Remember: There was heavy speculation over the offseason that Cleveland could or should trade Allen to open things up for Evan Mobley and create more cap space.

Here the Cavs would gain a good outside shooter in Russell, a capable bench big man in Wood and very good draft capital (plus decent young talent to boot).

Let's say the Cavaliers are struggling through the regular season in the winter and the Lakers call and offer this trade package in exchange for Allen.

Would Cleveland really say no?

The biggest downside is that the Cavs would take a pretty big setback defensively, but the good news is that Mobley is a top-notch defender in his own right.

If the Cavaliers decide to trade Allen at some point this season, this is probably the best return they'll get.
