The Christmas lights in Old Town Fort Collins will come on Friday evening, just in time to brighten the early night that coincides with the end of Daylight Saving Time early Sunday morning.

The event will lead to celebrations and street closures in the city center.

When and where

The annual holiday lighting ceremony will take place on Friday, November 1st from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Old Town Square.

The lights are expected to turn on about half an hour after sunset, after a countdown around 6:30 p.m., with live music on the Old Town Square stage before and after.

Each year, the city and the Downtown Development Authority collaborate on Christmas lights, which are illuminated in 22 city blocks from early November through Valentine's Day.

The city says thousands of LED string lights will be hung along College Avenue from Laporte Avenue in the north to Magnolia Street in the south, as well as along Walnut Street, Linden Street, Pine Street, Mountain Avenue, and in the square and Oak Street Plaza become.

This is what the event looked like last year:

These streets will be closed

The following areas will be closed to vehicles and bicycles at different times before, during and after the lighting:

Walnut and Linden Street: From 3 to 8:30 p.m., all of Walnut and the portion of Linden from Old Town Square to Jefferson Street will be pedestrianized. Businesses were invited to hold outdoor activities and retail sales.

Bergallee: Closures will be in place east of College Avenue to the Old Town Parking Garage near Remington Street beginning at 4:30 p.m. Access to the garage remains open.
