Millions of pounds of ready-to-eat chicken and turkey products have been recalled due to possible listeria contamination.

The recalled foods, made by BrucePac, a precooked meat manufacturer, were sold nationwide at major retailers such as Aldi, Trader Joe's, HEB and Walmart, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.

The recalled poultry products were manufactured between June 19, 2024 and October 8, 2024, according to FSIS. The products were distributed nationwide to stores, restaurants and other institutions.

Ready-to-Eat Chicken Recall 2024

FSIS first alerted consumers to the recall on October 9, 2024.

During routine testing, the agency found that Listeria monocytogenes, the bacterium that causes Listeria infections, was present in BrucePac ready-to-eat poultry products. Further testing traced the source of the bacteria to ready-to-eat BrucePac chicken, FSIS said.

Subsequently, on October 10 and 11, FSIS updated its list of recalled products to include additional products.

There are no illnesses associated with the recall, but FSIS is “concerned that some products may be available for use in restaurants, institutions and other facilities,” the alert said. It is also possible that these other institutions may have used the ready-to-eat poultry in products that are still on shelves or in consumers' homes.

If you have products affected by the recall, you should not eat them. Instead, throw them away or return them to where you purchased the products.

Chicken recall list: Which products are affected?

The recall now includes more than 200 different ready-to-eat poultry products, representing approximately 10 million pounds of recalled meat. Here is the USDA's full list of recalled products with photos of the product labels.

The products were sold in several major grocery stores including:

• Trader Joe's
• Walmart
• Aldi
• Goal
• HEB
• Giant eagle
• Kroger

The recall also affects products with well-known brand names such as:

• Jenny Craig
• Atkins
• Select signature
• Boston Market
• Amazon Fresh
• Michelinas
• Raos
• Dole

Many of the recalled products are finished salad, rice or pasta bowls that contain potentially contaminated chicken or turkey.

According to FSIS, some of the recalled products have the establishment number 51205 or P-51205 inside or below the USDA inspection mark. However, due to further distribution and processing, some products may have different company numbers.

The products affected by the recall include:

• Red's Grilled Chicken & Cheddar Burrito, with lot code SD4271 and best purchase date March 27, 2026.
• Great Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with batch code 24225 and a best before date of August 12, 2025.
• Jenny Craig Classic Chicken Carbonara, with batch code 24243 and best before date February 21, 2026.
• Trader Joe's BBQ Flavored Chicken Salad, with various best by dates between September 29, 2024 and October 15, 2024.
• Atkins Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo, with product code J4281 and best before date October 7, 2025.
• Boston Market Chicken Fajita Rice Bowl, with product code J4268 and a best before date of September 24, 2025.
• Michelina's Chicken Fried Rice, with product code J4239 and a best before date of August 26, 2025 or product code J4270 and a best before date of September 26, 2025.
• Good & Gather Chicken Tikka Masala, with batch code SO58227 and best before date February 28, 2026.
• Taylor Farms Caesar Salad With Chicken, with establishment number 34013 and a best before date of on or before October 12, 2024.

Listeria symptoms

Listeria is an infection caused by bacteria. When listeria infects the intestines, it causes gastrointestinal symptoms similar to other food-borne illnesses, such as diarrhea and vomiting, explains the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Intestinal infections with listeria usually begin within 24 hours of eating the contaminated food. Symptoms are typically mild and resolve within three days, the CDC says.

Some people who get an intestinal listeria infection also develop a more severe invasive infection, meaning the bacteria has spread beyond the intestines.

According to the CDC, invasive listeria is particularly concerning for pregnant women, newborns, older adults and people with weakened immune systems. In pregnant women, invasive listeria can cause miscarriages, premature births, and stillbirths. The disease can also cause a life-threatening infection in newborns.

Signs of an invasive listeria infection in pregnant women include fever and flu-like symptoms such as fatigue and muscle aches, according to the CDC.

Other people might also experience:

• Stiff neck
• confusion
• Loss of balance
• Seizures
