Last week, Georgia and Alabama hosted perhaps the most exciting game of the 2024-2025 season in college football play.

In the sixth week there will be no such duel, but rather a clash between two traditional football powers. But there are still some exciting contests, some of which could help decide how many Southeastern Conference teams are true College Football Playoff contenders.

We hope to see more exciting games this week. Check out our five storylines to follow the SEC action.

1. Ole Miss' hopes to bounce back

Kentucky nearly beat No. 5 Georgia, then upset Ole Miss with a come-from-behind road win. From here the path for the No. Only more difficult is 12 Rebels, who will travel to South Carolina to face another stout defense a week before their scheduled trip to Baton Rouge. How good is Ole Miss? We'll get closer to answering that question this week when the powerful offense takes on one of the best sevens in the country.

2. Georgia's real game

Georgia almost pulled off a miraculous comeback in a thrilling loss to No. 1 Alabama. The Bulldogs' schedule will soon get tighter again – as games against No. 2 Texas, Ole Miss and No. 4 Tennessee get closer – but for now it's relatively loose. Georgia has home games against Auburn and Mississippi State in back-to-back weeks. It should win both contests relatively easily and use each one to correct the problems created by the painful loss to the Crimson Tide.

3. Missouri's Road Test

Missouri looked scary through the first two weeks of the season. Then the No. 9 Tigers beat Boston College by just one and needed two overtimes to knock off Vanderbilt. Both opponents are lively. But a team with playoff hopes must be able to win such contests more easily. Next up for Missouri is a road game against Texas A&M. A strong win will keep the Tigers in the postseason picture. An upset loss is likely to upset them.

4. Florida's tough non-conference opponent

What made Florida's schedule so daunting was arguably not the slate of SEC opponents that was the killer. They were the non-conference games the Gators had scheduled: Miami, Florida State and now UCF. Since the Golden Knights have consistently been one of the best Group 5 teams in the country, they are typically a daunting opponent. That fact is especially true this week as UCF hopes to bounce back from its Week 5 loss to Colorado and defeat an in-state rival. Florida faces a challenge.

5. Vanderbilt's big home game

Vanderbilt has played better football than most expected before the season. The Commodores lost to Georgia State, but they beat Virginia Tech and pushed Missouri into overtime. Will Vanderbilt upset Alabama? Probably not. But you can certainly judge its potential to upset worse SEC teams by how well it performs against the Crimson Tide, a team that looked shockingly dominant in the first half of its classic home game against Georgia last week.
