'But don't call them weird': Trump raises eyebrows after crude 12-minute anecdote about Arnold Palmer's masculinity

Donald Trump shared a 12-minute anecdote about golfer Arnold Palmer at a rally in Pennsylvania that drew ridicule on social media after he made an inappropriate comment.

Trump was speaking Saturday night in Latrobe, Palmer's birthplace, as the 12-minute tangent began. The former president began by praising Palmer's career, describing his previous conversations with him: “There were a few golfers who you could say were a little better, a few, not many,” he said. “But there was no one who had his magic.”

But the former president's anecdote quickly fell apart as he discussed some intimate details about the golf icon.

“This is a guy who was all man,” Trump said. “He was showering with the other pros, they came out of there and said, 'Oh my God, this is incredible.' I had to say it.”

“I had to tell you the shower part because it’s true,” he added.

Social media users were quick to mock the former president for this anecdote.

“According to the latest NYT/Siena poll, the top three issues for swing voters include: 1. Inflation 2. Abortion 3. The size of Arnold Palmer's penis,” podcast host Dan Pfeiffer wrote on X.

“But don't call them weird,” author Jennifer Taub wrote, alluding to Kamala Harris' nickname for the former president and his vice president, JD Vance.

Others noted the crude nature of the comment.

“Real stuff for the dinner table,” said one X user.

“I clicked on 'Arnold Palmer' to see if the tea was trending,” another user wrote. “It was the furthest thing from tea.”

Palmer was born in Latrobe in 1929. Palmer, nicknamed “The King,” is one of the most famous golfers in U.S. history. Palmer died in Pittsburgh in 2016 at the age of 87.

Trump is only one point ahead of Harris in Pennsylvania, the latest Emerson College poll shows. While Trump spoke about Palmer in the important swing state, Harris campaigned with Usher in Atlanta. The Independent the Trump campaign has reached out for comment.
