Brentford 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday – Carabao Cup result: The Bees beat the Owls 5-4 on penalties to reach the last eight

AFTER THE SHOOT-OUT TRIUMPH, THE BEES REACHED ATTENTION

Goalkeeper Mark Flekken was the hero as Brentford moved into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup with a penalty shootout win over Sheffield Wednesday at the Gtech Community Stadium on Wednesday.

The first nine penalties were taken with confidence, with The Bees parrying Liam Palmer's shot-stopper to secure a 5-4 win after the draw ended 1-1 after 90 minutes

Thomas Frank's side got off to a great start when Kevin Schade scored his first goal in 16 games at the second attempt after visiting goalkeeper Pierce Charles had his first shot saved in the 11th minute.

Mathias Jensen and Bryan Mbeumo almost doubled the Premier League side's lead but failed to express their dominance on the scoresheet.

Sheffield Wednesday hardly threatened but stunned the hosts just before the hour mark when Djeidi Gassama sank a long-range shot.

From then on, the guests held firm and had a chance for a surprise in the penalty shootout, but fell just short in the end.

Brentford next visit Fulham in the Premier League on Monday evening. Sheffield Wednesday host Watford in the Championship on Saturday.
