Bob's Burgers alum Jay Johnston pleads guilty to felony charges from Jan. 6

UPDATE: The voice actor of Bob's Burgers who attacked police officers and others during the MAGA mob siege of the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, must go to prison for one year and one day.

Over a year after Jay Johnston was arrested for his very active involvement in one of the worst days in the history of American democracy, the self-proclaimed “blacklisted” actor was sentenced by a federal judge in Washington DC on Monday. Johnston was present at the sentencing and will turn himself in to authorities to begin serving his sentence in the next few weeks.

The sentence imposed by U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols was less than the 18 months sought by prosecutors. “An 18-month sentence reflects the seriousness of Johnston’s conduct, including his spread of disinformation about January 6 and his lack of remorse for participating in the insurrection,” prosecutors said in a sentencing motion to the court earlier this month.

To that end, prosecutors found that Johnston “made light of his involvement in the insurrection by posing as Jacob Chansley, known as the “QAnon Shaman,” at a Halloween party he attended in 2022. disguised Moderator The actor's lead lawyer, Stanley Woodward, unsuccessfully tried to limit his client's prison sentence to less than a year.

The actor was dropped from the Fox animated series after his participation was revealed on January 6th. His lawyer claimed that Johnston was targeted by authorities because he was a “celebrated Hollywood actor.”

Judge Nichols didn't believe that and listed Johnston among the more than 600 people behind bars for her role in the Jan. 6 shooting.

2nd UPDATE, July 8th: Former Bob's Burgers Voice actor Jay Johnston pleaded guilty today to federal charges for his role in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol. He was charged with disorderly conduct, a felony.

Johnston, 55, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, but sentencing guidelines suggest eight to 14 months in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for October 7.

Johnston's other credits include: Moderator, Men in Black II And You better call Saul.

The Bank Bob's Burgers The actor turned himself in to the FBI at its field office on Wednesday, a day after the Justice Department issued an arrest warrant for him (read it here). Johnston is expected in federal court later today. (Update, 7:45 p.m.: Johnston made his first appearance in U.S. District Court this afternoon. He was released on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to attend a remote hearing on June 13.)

Wanted by the FBI since March 2021, the involvement of the man who voiced Jimmy Pesto in dozens of episodes of the Fox animated series wasn't exactly news. An alum of Mr. Show with Bob and David, You better call Saul And The Sarah Silverman ProgramJohnston had to take a break Bob's Burgers back in December 2021 because he was part of the Donald Trump-supporting MAGA mafia that stormed the Capitol on that day almost two and a half years ago.

As with literally thousands of suspects, police released photos of Johnston not long after the Jan. 6 attack:

As the screenshot-filled documents make clear, the distribution of Johnston's images was met with a fairly quick response:

On or about March 8, 2021, an attorney contacted the FBI's National Threat Operations Center (“NTOC”) and indicated that he/she represented JAY JAMES JOHNSTON, the individual depicted in publicly distributed photos 247-AFO .

The FBI interviewed three current or former employees of JOHNSTON, all of whom identified JOHNSTON as the person in the above photos from 247-AFO. One of those employees provided the FBI with a text message in which JOHNSTON confirmed that he was at the Capitol on January 6th and stated, “The news portrayed it as an attack.” It actually wasn't. Thought it somehow turned out that way. It was chaos. I was treated with batons and tear gas and found it quite unsatical.”

United Airlines records show JOHNSTON had reserved a round-trip flight from Los Angeles, California, to Washington, DC, departing January 4, 2021 and returning January 7, 2021.

So far, more than 1,000 Jan. 6 rioters have been arrested, with nearly 280 behind bars or about 490 convicted.
