Biden calls Trump supporters 'trash' during Harris campaign rally while vice president promises unity at Ellipse rally

President Biden went viral on the Internet Tuesday evening with comments denigrating Trump supporters as his No. 2 running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, delivered a major speech to voters from the Ellipse Square directly in front of the White House, calling for the called for unity.

During a virtual Harris campaign call with Voto Latino, Biden took a swipe at former President Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden, which made headlines after insult comedian Tony Hinchiffe made jokes mocking various ethnic groups, including one Joke called Puerto Rico a “floating” island of trash.

“The only trash I see floating out there is his supporters,” Biden said. “(Trump’s) demonization of Latinos is irresponsible and un-American.”

The comment quickly went viral and sparked swift condemnation from critics.

“This is disgusting,” responded Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance. “Kamala Harris and her boss Joe Biden are attacking half the country. There is no excuse for this. I hope the Americans reject this.”

“Kamala Harris was deeply outraged by a comedian’s joke. If she has any decency or integrity, she will condemn her partner Joe Biden’s despicable statement calling half the country trash,” said Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark.

“Woof. He's calling half the country 'trash' while Harris is talking,” CNN's Scott Jennings said.

“Well, there he is. So outraged by Tony the Comedian that the sitting president borrows the garbage characterization to apply to half of America. I imagine cable news will be covering all of this tomorrow, right?” asked Josh Holmes, co-host of the Reckless podcast.

“Just amazing that Biden managed to completely obstruct Kamala’s speech in the worst possible way,” said Fox News contributor Joe Concha.

“Shades of Hillary's Deplorables…I repeat: Lots of 2016 vibes in this election,” wrote Jewish Insider Editor-in-Chief Josh Kraushaar.

“If you're wondering why Biden wasn't at the rally Kamala Harris just held outside his house,” Business Insider reporter Bryan Metzger quipped.

Trump himself responded to the “terrible” comment while speaking at a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania.

“Remember Hillary? She said 'deplorable' and then 'irredeemable', right? But she said 'regrettable.'” “That didn't work out. 'Garbage' is worse in my opinion,” Trump told his supporters. “But he doesn’t know – you have to please forgive him. Please forgive him. Because he doesn’t know what he said.”

“And I’m convinced he likes me more than Kamala,” Trump joked.

Former President Trump criticized President Biden's comment and called on his supporters to do the same "Garbage," say it is "worse" as Hillary Clinton's infamous "Basket full of deplorables" Remark in 2016.

Top Puerto Rico official supports former president after comic's rally caused uproar

Biden tried to clarify his comments on social media.

“Today I called the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico expressed by Trump's supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as trash – that's the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden wrote on X. ” His demonization of Latinos is.” That's all I wanted to say. The comments at this rally do not reflect who we are as a nation.

A White House spokesman previously told Fox News: “The president called the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally 'garbage.'” The Harris campaign did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Biden's comments stand in stark contrast to the message Harris delivered to voters outside the White House, in what many called her final sales pitch to the American people before the election.

“I promise to look for common ground and common-sense solutions to make your life better. I'm not interested in scoring political points. I want to make progress. “I promise to listen to experts, to those who will be affected by the decisions I have made and to people who disagree with me,” Harris said at the Ellipse rally. “Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe that people who disagree with me are the enemy. He wants to put her in prison. I give them a seat at the table.”
