BGT 2024-25: If we play well against Ashwin-Jadeja, we will be in a better position: Maxwell

New Delhi, September 27 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) at home later this year, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell believes being good against Indian spin will be crucial -Duo Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja to play them.

The ace bowlers have emerged as one of the best spin bowling pairs in recent times. In the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, Ashwin and Jadeja shared 13 scalps in two innings to lead India to a dominant 280-run win. For the five-Test series in Australia, the duo's performance will have a big impact on India's chances of retaining the series Down Under for the third consecutive time.

“I think that over a long period of time, having played against the likes of Ashwin and Jadeja, these two have always been the ones we have consistently competed against and the battles we have had with them often have the outcome of the game “For sure.” So if we play well against those two, we'll generally be in a better position than if they had a great day and overtook us. These two guys have been there for most of my career. “They’re similar ages,” Maxwell said on Star Sports.

The Australian all-rounder also praised India's leading pacer Jasprit Bumrah's consistent emergence as the world's leading pacer after he first faced him in the Mumbai Indians nets in the 2013 IPL.

“And probably more recently Jasprit Bumrah. I was there in his first IPL year in Mumbai in 2013 and met him practically every day in the nets. Watching him develop from a young, untapped talent to what he is now – “Probably the best bowler in all three formats – is a pretty amazing story,” he added.

In the upcoming five-match Test series, India and Australia will play in Perth, Adelaide (pink ball match), Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney from November 22 to January 7, 2025.

India have retained the title in the last four consecutive BGT (home and away) games, including famous series wins in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
