Arsenal today: Shakhtar, Zinchenko, Wilshere and happy birthday Arsene!

Hello, Arsenal fans. Welcome to Arsenal Today: a new daily bulletin from The athleteis Arsenal team. From Monday to Friday, we'll keep you up to date on the latest Arsenal developments and point out some of our favorite pieces we've published.

The focus today is inevitably on tonight's Champions League home game against Shakhtar Donetsk, where Arsenal have something should It will be their most straightforward night of the eight in the league phase. Before the start of the competition, it was assumed that the Ukrainian team had an 81 percent chance of elimination – but after picking up just one point in the first two games, this figure rose to 90 percent.

With that in mind, I highly recommend this piece by Jordan Campbell this morning about Oleksandr Zinchenko's relationship with Russia. We all know the Arsenal man has become an icon in Ukraine, but not much has been written about how he crossed the border a decade ago trying to carve out a career he feared would end could slip away from him. Zinchenko's autobiography, Believewill be published on Thursday.

On Monday morning our Art de Roche took the train to London Colney to attend Mikel Arteta's pre-match press conference and watch part of the open training session. The coach wanted to put into perspective Saturday's Premier League away defeat to Bournemouth and the end of his side's unbeaten start to the season.

“The context is that we have lost a game in six months,” Arteta told the assembled media. “Okay, now we have to win again, considering we lost for the first time in six months, so let's show it.”

He suggested that Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka were making good progress towards recovery from their injuries – although neither of them, nor defender Jurrien Timber, were involved at the start of Monday's training session. Should they fail to make it into the Shakhtar game, Saka and Timber are expected to fight for Sunday's big Premier League home game against Liverpool.

Arteta could take the opportunity to rotate the squad a bit tonight after Arsenal picked up four points from their first two European games, with the likes of Gabriel Martinelli, Zinchenko and perhaps even Ethan Nwaneri pushing for inclusion in the starting XI.

While Art was at the training ground he was also able to speak to another senior figure at Arsenal – more on that soon!

Jack Wilshere's move to become part of Norwich City of the Championship's coaching staff is still being planned. We have examined the implications of his potential departure from Arsenal's Under-18s team and will look at them in more detail this week.

Art and I will be at the game tonight, with Arsenal hoping to bounce back after a disappointing evening at Bournemouth. With the Liverpool game on the horizon, Arteta will be aiming to get back to winning ways and boost the group's confidence.

Finally, I would certainly like to wish Arsene Wenger, who turns 75 today, a very happy birthday.

I'm sure he'll have a wry smile at Arsenal's recent red card – it's classic Wenger.
