Angel Reese on WNBA Salary: 'Doesn't Pay My Bills'

Angel Reese revealed that her WNBA salary barely covers her daily expenses, sparking an online discourse.

“I just hope you all know that the WNBA doesn't pay my bills at all,” the 22-year-old Chicago Sky star said candidly in an Instagram Live clip that was shared on social media. “I don’t even think this will pay any of my bills.”

Reese said her rent is $8,000 and jokingly added, “I live beyond my means like you all think. I don’t even know my salary for the WNBA.”

WNBA salaries are historically lower than NBA salaries. Reese, a player who was instrumental in increasing the league's viewership, earned an estimated $73,000 in her rookie season.

“I mean being able to play for four to five months and get $75,000 on top of the other endorsement deals I do,” Reese previously said. “I think that’s a plus for me.”

The league announced that this season was the most watched and attended season in decades, with a 170% increase in viewership for ESPN platform games compared to last season.

Reese has a lot of endorsement deals

Reese's comments were met with negative backlash from people who assumed she was unable to support her lifestyle.

“She's the one who decided to move into an apartment that costs 8k a month lol. “If your salary doesn’t cover a certain rent, maybe you shouldn’t sign that lease,” one user wrote on X.

Another person said: “She could literally move somewhere else that doesn't cost $8,000. She’s complaining about what.”

In addition to a record-breaking season, Reese has garnered endorsements and partnerships with major brands including Beats by Dre, Reebok and Reese's. The Hersey's Candy announced its apparel collaboration with the Chicago Sky forward in August. The collection includes t-shirts, hoodies, hats and jerseys.

“To the Reese's Pieces, you guys are making this happen! Shop our limited-edition Angel Reese x Reese's Pieces Logo Collection now at The AngelReese.com!” Reese's said in a statement.

Reese is also the host of her own weekly podcast called Unapologetically Angel, where she has made several celebrity appearances. Her meeting with singer Mariah The Scientist and rapper Latto has more than 870,000 views.

Outside of her fashion moments in the WNBA tunnel, she also made appearances at major events. Earlier this week, she was photographed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York City with Cardi B and Coco Jones.
