All-time record between Texas and Oklahoma

One of college football's richest rivalries is here: the Red River Rivalry between No. 1 Texas and No. 16 Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.

And for the first time this year, the Red River Rivalry will be considered an SEC matchup after the Longhorns and Sooners joined the conference from the Big 12 in the offseason.

The Longhorns are looking to bounce back from last year's game, when No. 3 Texas was defeated by No. 12 Oklahoma 34-30 after then-Sooners quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw a game-winning touchdown pass with 15 seconds left. Texas is also expected to get starting quarterback Quinn Ewers back on Saturday after the 6-foot-11 quarterback was sidelined in Week 2 with an oblique strain.

Here's what you should know about the Red River Rivalry Series record and more:

When was the first game of the Texas-Oklahoma, Red River Rivalry?

According to Texas records, the Longhorns and Sooners first met in Austin in 1900. When Texas beat Oklahoma 28-2 in that contest, the state of Oklahoma was not one of the 50 states of the United States and was instead referred to as the “Twin Territories.”

Oklahoma did not become the 46th state of the United States until November 16, 1907, when then-President Theodore Roosevelt approved Presidential Proclamation 780, which admitted Oklahoma as a state.
