A discount grocery chain is slashing prices even further this holiday season — and that's something to be thankful for.

On Oct. 16, Aldi announced its lowest-priced Thanksgiving basket in five years, giving 10 people a full meal for less than $47. The chain cites a NielsenIQ study published in the Wall Street Journal earlier this year that found grocery prices for hundreds of items have increased 50% since 2019. So Aldi decided to offer the food cheaper than it cost at the time.

According to Aldi, the meal for less than $4.70 per person forgoes all of the “sales, coupons, minimum purchase requirements, loyalty cards and other benefits needed to save at traditional grocers” and instead comes in a simple grab-and-go format.

Aldi's Thanksgiving basket includes a Butterball turkey (presumably weighing 16 pounds) with seasonings, gravy, rolls, macaroni and cheese, and stuffing. It also contains the ingredients to make cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.

“At ALDI, we focus every day on finding ways to offer our customers the lowest prices – and this Thanksgiving is no different,” Aldi CEO Jason Hart said in a press release, adding that now 25% of US households shopping at ALDI chain. “We worked hard this Thanksgiving to deliver the best value and quality products so everyone can enjoy a traditional meal with family and friends without having to compromise.”

For people who want to go to a Friendsgiving potluck or keep it a little casual on the big day, Aldi is also offering three Thanksgiving bundles for under $10. Each package contains a bottle of Aldi-exclusive California Heritage Pinot Noir plus one of the following products:

There are some limitations to Aldi's Thanksgiving basket: Availability may vary by store location and is subject to change. Cart prices are valid October 16th through November 27th (the day before Thanksgiving).

The news comes as the grocer has been involved in a recall of chicken and turkey products from precooked meat maker BrucePac due to possible Listeria contamination.

Many of the recalled products are pre-made salad, rice or pasta bowls that contain potentially contaminated chicken or turkey and were sold nationwide at major retailers such as Trader Joe's, HEB, Walmart and Aldi.
