Chael Sonnen believes Stipe Miocic can use his size and strength to surpass Jon Jones

Stipe Miocic is undeniably one of the greatest heavyweight fighters to ever appear in the sport.

Blessed with dynamite hands and supreme wrestling skills, the Croatian-American has etched his legacy in stone.

But despite his size, many believe he is in for a rude awakening when he fights Jon Jones later this month.

This is largely due to Miocic's inactivity since the devastating loss to Francis Ngannou in 2021.

However, Chael Sonnen isn't so sure 'Bones' will have his way and insists the former heavyweight king will have a clear advantage when they meet in the cage.

In a video uploaded to his YouTube channel, The American Gangster said: “Well, Stipe is old, but not much older than Jon. I won't argue with you if you tell me Stipe is old by fighter standards, but I would disagree if you told me Jon is young.

“Do you think Jon can just take out Stipe whenever he wants? If you believe that, that's something Daniel Cormier couldn't do.

“In one of the fights there were two takedowns and Stipe got them both. I just remind you, do you think Jon can easily beat Stipe?

“Do you think Stipe is the guy who’s going to jump out that window? I'm talking about the window of giving up. Do you think this will happen to Stipe? If not, we’ll be left behind in the stand-up realm.

“Do you think Jon Jones can take out Stipe Miocic? And that's the only point where that size and power actually comes into play. It would work out in Stipe's favor, am I wrong? Do you think Jon is the better stand-up?”

It appears Sonnen isn't the only MMA icon giving Miocic a good chance of regaining his championship belt.

As the contest draws ever closer, more and more fighters are coming forward and insisting that the 42-year-old has the minerals to get the job done.

And recently, a former UFC heavyweight titleholder came out strongly in favor of Miocic, claiming that he will finish Jones and be “the king.”
