Lechon sauce and other Filipino condiments that have been either in short supply or unavailable in the U.S. in recent weeks have been reformulated to meet U.S. Food and Drug Administration requirements.

In a statement, NutriAsia said the reformulated products were shipped back in August.

“However, due to global shipping issues, there were unfortunate delays and the products did not arrive until last week,” NutriAsia said.

“The shipment is currently undergoing routine US FDA inspection and we expect it to be available for commercial release soon,” it said.

“We want to reassure our U.S. consumers that their favorite NutriAsia products, like Mang Tomas, UFC and Jufran, will soon be back in stores with the same quality and taste they have come to love over the years.” said NutriAsia.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has included variants of Mang Tomas All-Purpose Sauce, Jufran banana and chili sauces in a recent import alert.

On October 25, the US FDA issued Import Alert 99-45 regarding detention without physical examination of foods that contain or contain an unsafe food additive.

“Departments may detain shipments of identified products from companies on the Red List of this Import Alert without physical examination,” the U.S. FDA said.

“In order to remove a company's product from the red list, information should be provided to the agency that sufficiently demonstrates that the company has resolved the conditions that gave rise to the appearance of non-compliance,” it added.

NutriAsia said it has complied with all legal requirements of the countries to which we export our products.

“We know that these regulations will be updated regularly based on new research, local health trends and the public health needs of their citizens,” NutriAsia said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
