Season statistics

Stroud is up to 1,948 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and four interceptions this season. He completed 66.5% of his passes and ran for 84 yards. Stroud has had two of his worst fantasy performances of the season.

Rodgers has completed 61.6% of his passes for 1,896 yards, 12 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He ran for 44 yards. Rodgers has scored double-digit fantasy points in seven straight games, but has only one 20-point outing this season.

Darnold has 1,610 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions and has completed 67.2% of his passes. He also has 106 rushing yards. He has been an average or better fantasy quarterback in all but one week this season.

Stafford has 1,671 passing yards, seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season. He completed 67.7% of his passes and added nothing as a runner. Stafford put together his best fantasy show of the season.

Herbert has eight touchdown passes and one interception this year. He completed 64.8% of his passes, threw for 1,443 yards and added 83 rushing yards. Herbert posted his best fantasy result of the season in Week 8 and his best three performances have come over the past three weeks.

Prescott now has 1,845 passing yards, 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions this year. He added 24 rushing yards and a score while completing 63.7% of his passes. He recovered somewhat in Week 8, but has only one fantasy appearance with more than 20 points this season.

Mayfield has 2,189 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and nine interceptions so far this season. He completed 71.1% of his passes for 169 yards and two more scores on the ground. Mayfield has scored over 20 fantasy points in five straight games.

Smith has accumulated 2,197 passing yards but only eight touchdowns this season. He threw seven picks, completed 68.8% of his passes, rushed for 177 yards and scored once on the ground. For the first time in Week 8, he failed to score double-digit fantasy points.

Nix has completed 63.2% of his passes for 1,530 yards, eight touchdowns and five interceptions. He also has 259 yards and four scores on the ground. He's putting together his best fantasy performance, scoring at least 20 fantasy points in three of the last four games.

Williams has 1,448 passing yards, nine touchdowns, five interceptions and a 62.8% completion rate. He also has 210 rushing yards. After back-to-back 20-point games, Williams failed to reach double figures in points in last week's game.

Cousins has 2,106 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season. He completed 68.3% of his passes and barely did anything on the ground. Cousins has been inconsistent as a fantasy player over the last month, but is coming off his second-best outing this season.

Flacco is back as the starter for Indianapolis. He has 716 passing yards, seven touchdowns, one interception and a 65.7% completion rate. He ran for 26 yards. In two starts and almost a full game of relief, Flacco has posted two average fantasy performances and one top-end finish.

Murray has 1,638 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, three interceptions and a 67.2% completion percentage. He also has 344 rushing yards and two scores. Murray has scored 20-plus fantasy points in consecutive weeks, and both came against top-notch defenses.

Week 9 matchups

Several of those quarterbacks face off this week, starting with Stroud and Rodgers on Thursday night. It's a more favorable matchup for Rodgers as Houston allows 17 fantasy points per week; New York only gives up 14 per week.

Darnold and Flacco also face off this week. Indy allows 17 points to opposing quarterbacks, while Minnesota gives up 16.

Stafford and Smith meet in another game. Both defenses allow 16 fantasy points per week.

Prescott and Cousins engage in another fight. It's a great matchup for both QBs, with Dallas allowing 20 points per week and Atlanta giving up 19.

Williams and Murray are also part of the same game. Arizona allows 18 points per week while Chicago gives up just 11.

Mayfield's matchup against the Chiefs is average. KC allows 16 points per week. Nix has a fantastic matchup against the Ravens, who are allowing 21 points per week. Herbert's testing against the Browns is average, with Cleveland allowing 16 points per week.

Forecasts and starting recommendations

In the Week 9 projections, Murray and Prescott lead this group of QBs with 19 fantasy points each.

Smith, Cousins and Flacco are all valued at 17 points. Williams, Mayfield, Darnold and Stafford each had 16 points. Nix, Rodgers and Herbert score 15 points each, while Stroud is lowest at 14 points.

Overall, I like Cousins best among these quarterbacks. The matchup is great, and it looks like a high-scoring shootout that should give Cousins a high fantasy result.

I would take the other end of this matchup and say Prescott delivers a good fantasy score. I'm more confident about the match than I am the player here.

Next, I like Stafford. Stafford is a different player on and off, and that should make him one of the better fantasy quarterbacks for the rest of the season (assuming everyone stays healthy).

After that I would join Murray. He's in for another brutal fight this week, but after what he's done against two good defenses in the last two weeks, I trust Murray will deliver again. In a tougher matchup like this, being able to get rushing numbers is extremely important.

I would take a risk with Nix here. He's been playing well lately and the matchup is super favorable. I think Nix goes ahead and delivers another good fantasy score.

Then I would take Mayfield. He looked pretty good without it and last week. Mayfield may produce a good fantasy score with a few garbage time stats, but they all count the same in fantasy.

I like Flacco here. He has performed well in his playing time this season and I like the matchup so much that I want to try him out as a starter in Week 9.

I'm going here with Darnold. Normally Darnold checks in for me at the end of these articles, but the matchup is solid and he continues to deliver, so I'm good with him here.

After that I got Williams. The match is solid, but his inconsistencies put him way behind.

I would roll with Herbert next. He has trended upward in recent weeks, and I think the Chargers QB continues to serve fantasy owners well. Herbert is the last QB I'd like to start in this conversation – I'd rather leave the rest alone.

Rodgers is here for me. The matchup is solid, but I just don't trust the Jets offense right now.

I have Smith here. He's had a poor performance, and while he could produce a good fantasy score with a ton of passing yards, his lack of touchdowns this season puts me off.

It's pretty wild to have Stroud this low in a QB debate, but the matchup is poor and he doesn't have his top two wideouts. He'll be drafted by a lot of fantasy owners because that's what you do with a top fantasy QB pick, but I just don't see much of a game ahead.
