The calendar hasn't even reached November yet, but the New York Jets can probably start making offseason plans for January.

The Jets lost to the hapless New England Patriots 25-22 on Sunday in an improbable loss, leaving them 2-6 this season. The Patriots have the exact same record.

It seemed as if New York might snag an ugly win after Aaron Rodgers led the team with a crucial, game-winning drive in the fourth quarter that culminated in Braelon Allen's two-yard touchdown plunge with 2:57 left.

But the defense couldn't hold from there as the Pats broke through them relatively easily, with Rhamondre Stevenson scoring a one-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal with just 22 seconds left, also converting the two-point attempt himself and The Jets were unable to get into field goal range before time expired.

Nothing Sunday offered much hope that New York — despite a collection of expensive talent on the roster — could turn its season around.

The team regularly struggled to make plays in a timely manner, leading to serious timeouts and delay-of-game penalties, including one on a two-point conversion attempt in the fourth quarter that ultimately failed. Greg Zuerlein missed his sixth field of the season. The Jets didn't force a single turnover. A weapons-laden passing game largely sputtered and yielded 224 yards, although Rodgers scored two scores. The supposedly stout defense couldn't stop a passing game led by Jacoby Brissett and an array of receivers the average NFL fan has never heard of from driving down the field with the game on the line.
