A tropical storm formed in the eastern Pacific overnight, but forecasters expect it to dissipate by Monday.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said today that as of 5 a.m. Tropical Storm Lane was located about 1,550 miles west-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California with maximum sustained winds of 45 mph and moving west at 45 mph. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 45 miles from the center of Lane.

Forecasters said Lane could strengthen today, but “environmental conditions will become more adverse on Sunday as southwesterly shear over the system is expected to increase and the storm is expected to transition into a drier air mass early next week, which is expected to weaken Lane.” .”

Lane is expected to dissipate into a “post-tropical remnant low” in the eastern Pacific far from land by Monday, weather service officials said.

According to the National Weather Service in Honolulu, weekend weather in Hawaii is expected to include “light to moderate” trade winds, “with passing showers affecting primarily windward and mauka areas.”

“A surge of deeper moisture will potentially bring locally heavy rain and some thunderstorms to the state early next week, particularly over the eastern islands,” forecasters said. Rainy and windy weather is also expected in the state from Wednesday to Friday.

Honolulu will see highs in the mid-80s and overnight lows in the mid-70s this weekend, forecasters said.
