A small fire and smoking brakes on the Brown Line CTA train cause temporary delays in the Loop

A CTA Brown Line train was evacuated and no one was injured when a small fire broke out Friday morning, causing delays for several trains in the Loop.

Around 8 a.m., Chicago Fire Department officials responded to the station in the 200 block of North Wabash Avenue for the small fire, fire officials said.

The fire was extinguished before firefighters arrived and there were no injuries, according to firefighters.

CTA officials said the delays were due to smoking brakes on a Brown Line train and that traffic on all affected routes was normal.

Previously, Pink Line and Orange Line trains were rerouted to the outer loop and trains picked up on Brown Line platforms at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren, State/Van Buren, Adams/Wabash, Washington/ on and off. Wabash, State/Lake and Clark/Lake, according to a CTA alert.

Previously, shuttle buses also ran from Merchandise Mart to Clark/Lake for the Brown Line, from Halsted to Harold Washington Library-State/Van Buren for the Orange Line, and from Polk to Ashland/Lake for the Pink Line.

Further information was not initially available.
