A new No. 1 and Alabama making history (the bad kind)

Nevada Sports Net columnist Chris Murray is one of 63 voters in the college football AP Top 25 poll. Here's a look at his ballot this week.

On the rise

*Oregon: The Ducks earned their first road win since 1992 with a 35-0 win at Purdue and moved into No. 1 following Texas' loss to Georgia. The undefeated Ducks should be the unanimous No. 1 seed with wins over Ohio State and Boise State, but you never know if an erroneous first-place vote will end up elsewhere. Texas fell from top spot to No. 5 after a 30-15 home loss to Georgia, moving up two points to No. 3. There were minimal upsets – no ranked teams lost to unranked teams – so the only new school on the list is UNLV, which moved from uncontested to No. 25 on my ballot, taking Nebraska's spot.

In autumn

*Alabama: After their big win over Georgia, the Crimson Tide are 1-2 with losses to Vanderbilt and Tennessee and a two-point win over South Carolina. Things haven't looked right for 14 quarters in a terrible second half against Georgia and Alabama. Things don't get any easier for Kalen DeBoer's team as contests against top 25 Missouri and LSU are next. Alabama fell from No. 6 to No. 21 after this week's loss to Tennessee, marking the school's third two-loss regular season since 2011.
