A “Jane the Virgin” favorite showed up on “Matlock” — and she’ll be back

“Jane the Virgin” lovers were probably waiting for one of the popular dramedy’s cast members to appear on CBS creator Jennie Snyder Urman’s new show “Matlock.” In Episode 3, her (our) wish was granted.

Yael Grobglas, who played the sharp-witted Petra in “Jane,” came to the Jacobson & Moore offices as a special jury advisor with a great gift: She can tell when someone is lying. “The Meerkat,” aka Shae, is great for tracking down less-than-ideal jurors, but causes major trouble for Madeline Matlock (Kathy Bates), who, in case you haven't heard, is secretly working undercover at the law firm in the hopes of Find out Which of the three fancy lawyers hid documents a decade ago that would have ended the opioid crisis sooner? In addition to the case of the week mystery, this is a long-running theme for the entire season.

“(Yael) comes back several times (throughout the season),” Urman told IndieWire. “I think her next one is Episode 7.”

Grobglas is a particularly entertaining addition to a program that already deserves praise for its clever conceit. It's no wonder that CBS recently renewed the program for a second season after just two episodes aired. But while fans are just getting to know the entire crew, Urman promises that the intriguing twist about who in the law firm is responsible for hiding documents will be resolved by the end of the season; You won't put off this part any longer.

“By the end of the episode (in this season finale), you will definitely know who did what, when and how,” Urman promised. “So we’re going to solve that, and then that will sort of expose the veins of the story.”

Another big question of the season is the tension between the adorable Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) and Julian (Jason Ritter). The two lawyers are in the middle of a divorce, but many fans are already hoping they can find a way to work things out.

“It’s complicated,” Urman said with a laugh. “You know it’s complicated. There's a back and forth and it's been a long marriage and I'm for them, but I also know what's coming between them. So there are ups and downs.”

“Matlock” airs new episodes Thursdays on CBS.
