Firefighters responded to a brush fire near homes in Hacienda Heights on Friday afternoon after a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter spotted a person allegedly starting fires in the area, authorities said.

The fire was reported at 2:09 p.m. in the 17200 block of Colima Road and firefighters were on scene at 2:13 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. At around 3:30 p.m., the department said the fire had burned five acres of land.

Much of Southern California faced one Red flag warning Due to particularly dry and windy conditions, the risk of forest fires increases.

Firefighters said at the time that, to their knowledge, no homes were threatened.

Aerial footage at 3:30 p.m. shows a huge plume of smoke rising from bushes near a neighborhood, with some flames visible.

Meteorologists had warned of critical fire conditions due to strong, dry gusts across the Southland, particularly in the Inland Empire and the Santa Ana Mountains, just 40 miles south of Hacienda Heights.

No further details were released by the fire department.
