Helene-affected CSRA counties may receive SNAP relief

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Agencies have announced Counties eligible for assistance through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program for those affected by Helene.

People in Georgia affected by Helene can apply for a one-time grant to purchase food through the Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the Georgia Department of Human Services said.

The next phase in Georgia runs Thursday, November 7th through November 14th (excluding November 10th and 11th) for the following counties: Burke, Columbia, Glascock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Screven, Taliaferro, Warren and Washington.

The final phase runs from Monday, November 18th to November 23rd for Emanuel County.

To provide assistance under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act. As of November 1, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved the following counties for DSNAP as a result of Hurricane Helene: Abbeville, Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Greenville, Greenwood, Hampton, Jasper , Kershaw, Laurens, Lexington, McCormick, Newberry, Oconee, Orangeburg, Pickens, Richland, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

DSNAP will be implemented in two phases. Residents are only eligible for pre-registration and telephone interviews during their assigned time period.

Phase one includes the following counties: Aiken, Allendale, Anderson, Bamberg, Barnwell, Beaufort, Cherokee, Hampton, Laurens, McCormick, Saluda, Spartanburg, Union and York.

Starting Monday, November 11, residents of these counties can register for DSNAP online.

Those who pre-register will receive instructions over the phone on how to complete their eligibility interview. If approved, the applicant will have their EBT card mailed to them.

Applicants are asked to provide as much information as possible in the online pre-registration form. If you do not provide your county of residence, date of birth, current contact information, and a photo of your South Carolina driver's license/ID card, you may have to wait to apply in person until your county's DSNAP on-site event is scheduled .
