Jimmy Kimmel chokes back tears as he says the Trump-Harris election was a “terrible night” for everyone

Jimmy Kimmel fought back tears during his opening monologue on Wednesday night as he lamented that Donald Trump's victory in the 2024 presidential election was a “terrible night” for almost everyone in America – and beyond.

In his first show since Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the race for the White House Jimmy Kimmel Live The moderator rounded up an extensive list of all the people and parts of society that he believes could now suffer from a second Trump term.

“Let’s be honest, it was a terrible night last night,” said Kimmel, a longtime Democrat.

“It was a terrible night for women, for children, for hundreds of thousands of hard-working immigrants who make it, um…” He paused, held back tears, and paused for a moment.

“For healthcare, for our climate, for our climate, for science, for journalism, for justice, for free speech,” Kimmel continued.

“It was a terrible night for poor people, for the middle class, for seniors relying on Social Security, for our allies in Ukraine…” Kimmel added, breaking down in tears again.

“For NATO,” he continued, regaining his composure. “For truth and democracy and decency and it was a terrible night for everyone who voted against him.”

Kimmel also argued that it was a “disaster” for even Trump's most vocal MAGA supporters.

“Guess what? It was also a bad night for everyone who voted for him – you just don't realize it yet,” he added to applause from the studio audience.

“Most of all, it was an absolute disaster for Melania (Trump, new first lady),” he joked.

However, there are some beneficiaries of Trump's victory, Kimmel said, pointing to dictators, some of the world's richest people and Trump's future health chief Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

“But it was a really good night for (Vladimir) Putin and Polio and the lovable billionaires like Elon Musk and the brothers in Silicon Valley and all the floundering brain worms who sold what was left of their souls to bow to Donald Trump.” he said.

Kimmel's analysis came as Trump won a historic second term in the White House four years after leaving office in a shocking political comeback.

The Republican candidate crossed the 270 Electoral College vote threshold early Wednesday after winning several key battleground states.

Republicans are now looking at an electoral trifecta with the Senate holding a GOP majority and Democrats trailing in the House with several races still pending.
