Grocery shopping is finally worth it.

An Illinois woman won $1 million with a lottery ticket she bought at the grocery store — and completely forgot about.

According to the Illinois Lottery, the unidentified woman was shopping at a grocery store in Elmhurst, Illinois, on October 20 when, on a whim, she decided to pick up a lottery ticket.

“On the way to see my aunt, I made a quick stop at Jewel to pick up some groceries and before heading out the door I quickly grabbed a Lucky Day lottery ticket,” the lucky lady told lottery authorities.

Then she put the ticket in her purse and went on with her life – forgetting she even had a ticket.

The woman had guessed all five numbers correctly in the drawing on Sunday evening – according to lottery officials, the numbers 2-3-24-25-28. But she wouldn't find out she had reached the motherlode until a few days later.

“A few days after the drawing, I saw the ticket in my purse and opened my lottery app to scan my ticket to see if it was a winner,” the Illinois woman told the Illinois Lottery.

“I immediately saw “$1,000,000” on the screen and was completely shocked. I scanned the ticket again to double check and when it said “$1,000,000” again, I immediately started crying. I thought, 'This is incredible.'”

The woman said she was delighted she could afford her annual trip to Ireland.

According to the Illinois Lottery, this is the ninth Illinois Lottery player this year to win $1 million or more on Lucky Day Lotto.
