Preview of Kings vs. Raptors: We continue to Canada

The Sacramento Kings returned home after a 3-1 road loss and now, after the Election Day break, must face the opponent responsible for their only loss during their absence – the young and hungry Raptors . Will the Start Doug McDermott strategy be in play tonight? Will Chris Boucher transform into top Kevin Durant again? Are we certainly that there's no celebration for Vince Carter tonight?

Let’s talk Kings basketball.

When: Wednesday, November 6, 7:00 p.m. PST
Where: Golden 1 Center, Sacramento, CA
TV: NBCSCA – Mark Jones (play-by-play)
radio: Sactown Sports 1140am

For your consideration

40 years of Ror: We'll get to the game in a moment, I promise, but I would be remiss if I didn't mention that a long-time commentator at Sactown Royalty, The Kings Herald and Kings Twitter, Rory Cornell (also known by the pseudonym RORDOG), @BigRorDawg on Twitter ) passed away last month shortly before the start of the season. I can't tell you how he died or why, but I want to talk about him briefly. Rory moved to the Philippines last year for work reasons and immediately set about transforming his portion of Dumaguete City into Kingsland. Along the way, he sometimes bragged about how he taught various people in his life about the Kings there, or installed purple lights in his koi pond, or yelled at people on the street about their choice of NBA jerseys as they passed by. The thing with Rory – he was a man possessed. If the Kings got money back by trading a second-round pick, I best believe Rory would talk about it, in the comments or on the timeline, until he had enough of it. It's well known that Rory bet the entire Kings fanbase a billion dollars a head that Kessler Edwards would never touch the field for the Kings, and somehow he hit that shot in all 76 games that Edwards played over the course of two Seasons contested, eaten up. Early in our tenure at The Kings Herald, I had to flippantly mention to Rory that he could scroll past my tweet without commenting, or unfollow me if I upset him so much after he got a bit passionate about it that I had praised Rico Hines and him – he unfollowed me, then he blocked me, then he canceled his monthly Patreon subscription in protest, which with this last act made me briefly a pariah of the ownership group The Kings Herald made. Sure, he unblocked and we followed each other again a few months later and there was no upset at all, but I can never say that the guy didn't stay true to his words. I've always appreciated that. Rory was who he was and he had it all, which is not uncommon for anyone these days, especially sports fans. Rory was the fan who never gave himself a break or a moment to breathe and go to hell. He was passionate: his love for the team clouded his judgment, took him into fights and places I would never have gone with a gun to my head – and in the process he never lost his sense of humor, irony or morality. He knew he was stood on a hill. That delicate mix of madness that lies in the corners of knowledge and over-zealousness – in that respect he was an exemplary Kings fan. Rory was the epitome of Jerry Reynolds' “shitbird,” but you know, when I call him that, when I say he was a pain in the ass, I mean he was our Damn, that was him our Pain in the ass and I can't think of a greater honor I could bestow on the guy. RIP Rory. We miss you very much.

The little stuff

Raptor rematch: It's the night after the election, so sorry this section is short. We all saw the Raptors game and we all know what to do. Don't get me started on Doug McDermott. Don't allow Chris Boucher to score a point per minute, let him get hot enough to play 25 minutes. Don't record sixteen steals and then turn the ball over eighteen times. Don't play against Fox and DeRozan for 43 minutes and then wonder why the former goes 0-for-11 from deep. The Raptors are a young team, but they play hard for Darko up there in the great white north. Don't underestimate them and find a bench that works and the Kings can win on the road.

forecast

The old world is dying. The new world is struggling to be born. Sabonis with a triple double.

Kings: 119, Raptors: 111
