“Stranger Things 5” will be released with episode titles in 2025

The fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” will debut in 2025, Netflix announced Wednesday. To celebrate November 6, 1983, also known as “Stranger Things Day” – the day Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) was kidnapped into the Upside Down – the streamer also released a video revealing the titles of the final eight episodes , which will conclude the supernatural story of Hawkins, Indiana.

The episode titles are “The Crawl”, “The Vanishing of…”, “The Turnbow Trap”, “Sorcerer”, “Shock Jock”, “Escape From Camazotz”, “The Bridge” and “The Rightside Up”.

Some of these titles allude to previous episodes: “The Vanishing of…” – revealed with the name completely obscured – refers to the series premiere “The Vanishing of Will Byers”. Online fans have already speculated that the new abductee could be Holly Wheeler, the younger sister of Mike (Finn Wolfhard), who has reportedly been recast with Evil Dead Rise actress Nell Fisher. However, Netflix has not officially confirmed this.

The first season finale was titled “The Upside Down,” the name of the phantasmagoric alternate dimension associated with Hawkins, so it's fitting that the title of the series finale, “The Rightside Up,” is the opposite. And the title of the penultimate episode, “The Bridge,” brings to mind odd titles like Season 4’s “The Piggyback” and Season 2’s “The Gate.”

Other titles seem to introduce new vocabulary into the world of “Stranger Things.” “The Turnbow Trap” likely refers to a Hawkins company called Turnbow Land Development & Realty; Series co-creator Ross Duffer posted an “Upside Down” billboard for the company on Instagram in March. “Shock Jock,” in turn, likely refers to WSQK, a radio station that appears to be part of the season (again, courtesy of Ross Duffer).

Then there's “Escape From Camazotz,” which is believed to be a reference to Madeleine L'Engle's groundbreaking science fiction novel “A Wrinkle in Time,” in which the planet Camazotz is under the unyielding control of nefarious beings known as “Black Thing” are known as ES. What Camazotz is referring to in Stranger Things and who might escape him remains to be seen.

The most delightful detail in the video may be the revelation that the season is set in the fall of 1987, four years after the events of the first season – which first aired eight years ago, in 2016.

UPDATE: Several behind-the-scenes photos from the season were posted on the Stranger Things social media accounts, including stars Wolfhard, Schnapp, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, David Harbor and Winona Ryder.
