CNN's Jake Tapper responds virally to Kamala Harris' election collapse

Jake Tapper couldn't believe the magnitude of Kamala Harris' election defeat.

The veteran CNN anchor is going viral on social media after expressing surprise at an electoral map that showed Harris failed to surpass Joe Biden's 2020 victory in a single state.

“Holy Christ,” Tapper exclaimed as his colleague John King showed him the map. “Literally nothing? Literally not a county?” he asked. King replied, “Literally nothing.”

A version of the clip had 6.6 million impressions on X (formerly Twitter) at the time of publication. The moment occurred around 11 p.m. PT on Tuesday, meaning it occurred before Donald Trump's victory was announced. The votes are still being counted.

CNN called the 2024 presidential election in favor of the Republican candidate at 5:30 a.m. ET on Wednesday, but not before King broke ranks and predicted Trump's triumph.

At about 3:20 a.m. King said, “He’ll get there. He will get there. I wanted to say, ‘Except for this or that or the other.’ He’ll get there.”

The host, known for his so-called “magic wall,” added: “I probably shouldn't say that on TV… We haven't projected it yet, but he'll get there.”

CNN predicts Trump will receive 276 Electoral College votes, while Harris will receive 223. Trump is also expected to win the popular vote.
