Republican candidate Tim Sheehy will defeat incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Tester in the election for a Senate seat in Montana, NBC News predicts.

Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL and wealthy businessman, has been heavily touted by the Republican Party as one of its best chances for a Senate seat.

Former President Donald Trump won a decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential race, capturing several key battleground states, and Republicans made gains in the Senate.

A park ranger said Sheehy told him he accidentally shot himself in the arm, but Sheehy denied this and said he went to the hospital because he feared there was a bullet in his arm in a friendly-fire incident in Afghanistan arose that he had not reported to his superiors at the time.
