Jon Stewart ends 'Daily Show' with hope as Kamala Harris trails Trump

Jon Stewart ended Tuesday night's live “Daily Show” election special with a passionate message to his audience as the presidential election results continued to be announced.

“Here’s what we know: We really don’t know anything and we’re going to come out of this election. We're going to make all sorts of statements about what this country and this world is, and the truth is we won't really know shit,” Stewart said. “We will give the impression that this is the finality of our civilization. …We all have to wake up tomorrow morning and work like hell to get the world where we want it to be. And I just want to point out for perspective that the lessons that our experts will draw from these results and that they will surely proclaim will be wrong. And we have to remember that.”

The late-night show then played a series of clips pointing out that certain predictions about what America will look like after an election didn't necessarily come to pass, such as moving toward a post-racial America after the election Barack Obama in 2008.

“Yeah, that took a day!” Stewart joked.

The broadcast then played footage of several reporters declaring that Trump would leave Washington, DC as a “pariah” after the January 6, 2021 insurrection and that the former president would “never be allowed to set foot in the Capitol again.” set”. Never.”

“Always,” Stewart said after the news clippings. “My point is this: shit!”

According to the Associated Press, Trump is currently leading the presidential race against Vice President Kamala Harris. On Tuesday evening he was declared the winner of North Carolina, the first of seven contested states.

Harris' campaign is still hoping she will prevail in the blue wall states – Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan – once all the votes are counted, giving her victory. But in counties where all votes were tabulated, their margins fell short of Joe Biden's four years ago.

Stewart added on “The Daily Show,” “But that’s not the end! I promise you, this is not the end. And we must regroup and continue to fight and work day by day to create a better society for our children, for this world, for this country that we know is possible. It is possible.”
