Jon Stewart sent a blunt message to pollsters during his US election coverage in which Donald Trump won a surprise victory over Kamala Harris.

Trump was re-elected president after winning several key battleground states just hours after polls closed. He is only the second man to be re-elected president for non-consecutive terms.

Stewart finished his election day edition of The Daily Show at midnight Eastern Time and used his closing message to criticize pollsters who had predicted throughout the campaign that Harris would narrowly win the election.

“It’s not fully called yet. We don't know exactly what all the results will be. Our time is running out. I want to send a quick message real quick to all the pollsters, poll watchers, um, 'Hit me,'” the comedian said.

“I never want to hear from you again. Always. I never want to hear, 'We corrected the overcorrection video with the voters!'” “You don't know shit and I don't like you,” Stewart said in a scathing tirade.

Although Stewart was visibly frustrated, he tried to end the show with a positive, if sobering, message.

The 61-year-old said: “Look, look, look. Here's the thing. Well, here's what we know: We don't actually know anything, and we're going to come out of this election making all sorts of statements about what this country and this world is. And the truth is, we won't really know. And we will give the impression that this is the finality of our civilization. We all have to wake up tomorrow morning and work like hell to get the world where we want it to be. And I just want to point out for perspective that the lessons that our experts draw from these results that they are sure to announce will be wrong.”

Stewart then broadcast a montage of other statements from politicians and pundits after the recent US election, such as the demise of Trump and the end of racism.

“My point is this: F***!” Stewart shouted. “But that’s not the end. I promise you, this is not the end. And we must regroup, we must continue to fight and work day by day to create a better society for our children in this world.”

At the time of writing, counting is still ongoing in Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Nevada.

In a speech to his cheering supporters in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump called them “the greatest political movement of all time” and said they would “help our country heal” and “fix everything about our country.” Trump said his victory ushered in a “golden age for America” ​​and also claimed to have won the popular vote.
