Floodwaters pour into Ewa Beach home after heavy rains

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Torrential rains drenched parts of Oahu Tuesday morning, including Ewa Beach, where floodwaters rushed into a home and created a huge mess.

“The entire first floor is completely flooded,” Ewa Beach resident Timothy Crawley said. “I'm trying to get the air going, but the floor is cracked all over the place so I figure I'll have to replace the entire floor.”

Crawley, who has lived in Ewa Beach for two years, said the flooding started around 6 a.m. He believes a nearby canal may have overflowed, allowing water to flow into the neighborhood.

“It was a lake,” Crawley said. “One of my daughters came out. She says, 'There's a fish,' and she saw a fish and she ran in all excited because she saw a fish swimming next to the house.”

Crawley said he and his family gathered blankets and towels and tried to stop the water from coming through the entrances, but it still seeped through and flooded the ground floor.

“We’re not in a flood zone,” he said. “I spoke to some of my neighbors. One of the neighbors here, he's lived here his whole life. He's about mid-50s. He says, 'I've never seen anything like that.'”

A flood warning was in effect for Oahu until 11 a.m. All severe weather warnings have since expired.
