College Football Playoff Rankings Live Updates, Bracket Announced November 5th

It's a new era for college football. This season has already brought many changes as teams adjust to the conference's new direction. The next big change on the horizon is the College Football Playoff format, which will grow from four to 12 teams.

The four-team format has been the way the CFP has operated since it replaced the previous Bowl Championship Series. Now the size will triple, giving more teams the opportunity to get in on the action, giving more late-season teams a chance to fight their way to a title. The previous format did not provide a path to ultimate success if teams finished outside the top four.

Expansion was always possible, but this required the agreement of multiple parties to go beyond the previous agreement and expand. The Rose Bowl was the last party to agree to the early change, doing so in November 2022. Another expansion to 14 teams is reportedly on the table for 2026.

This post will be updated as soon as the rankings are published.

  1. Oregon (9-0)
  2. Ohio State (7-1)
  3. Georgia (7-1)
  4. Miami (9-0)
  5. Texas (7-1)
  6. Penn State (7-1)
  7. Tennessee (7-1)
  8. Indiana (9-0)
  9. BYU (8-0)
  10. Notre Dame (7-1)
  11. Alabama (6-2)
  12. Boise State (7-1)
  13. SMU (8-1)
  14. Texas A&M (7-2)
  15. LSU (6-2)
  16. Ole Miss (7-2)
  17. Iowa State (7-1)
  18. Pittsburgh (7-1)
  19. Kansas State (7-2)
  20. Colorado (6-2)
  21. Washington State (7-1)
  22. Louisville (6-3)
  23. Clemson (6-2)
  24. Missouri (6-2)
  25. Army (8-0)

Since part of the CFP is determined by conference championships, the projections are somewhat imprecise. For example, BYU is ranked ninth but receives a first-round bye as the projected winner of the Big 12. As a result, Ohio State, ranked in the top four, will not receive a first-round bye because Oregon is the projected top Big Ten team.
