AOC weighs in after JD Vance calls Kamala Harris 'trash'

Senator JD Vance, former President Trump's 2024 nominee, called Vice President Kamala Harris “garbage” during a speech on the eve of Election Day.

“The citizens of this country are not trash because they want to afford food and a nice place to live. But in two days we will be taking out the trash in Washington, DC, and the trash is called Kamala Harris,” Vance explained.

Comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was criticized after he made a joke in which he referred to Puerto Rico as “a floating island of garbage.” He made the joke while speaking at Trump's rally at Madison Square Garden.

President Biden later sparked controversy when he said, “The only trash I see floating out there is his supporters.”

Biden has indicated that he called Hinchcliffe's comments trash.

“Today I called the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico expressed by Trump supporters at his rally at Madison Square Garden trash – that's the only word I can think of to describe it,” Biden said in a post on X. “His demonization.” That’s all I wanted to say. The comments at this rally do not reflect who we are as a nation.

Harris said that Biden had “clarified his comments” and that she “rejects any criticism of people based on who they vote for.”
