Buttigieg suggested that Trump had already inflicted losses on the Republican Party, both in the 2020 election, in which Trump lost his re-election bid to Joe Biden, and in the 2022 midterm elections, in which the Republican Party underperformed. If this year's election is a third blow to the former president, Buttigieg said, it could allow the Republican Party to “finally” separate itself from Trump.
