It's time for basketball: Spurs at Clippers

Welcome to the game thread. Veterans of the game thread know how we operate here, but for anyone new, we have a few rules. Our Community Guidelines Apply and basically say: Be cool, no personal attacks, don't troll, and don't curse too much.

Tonight the Silver and Black play their first game in the Clippers' new arena, Steve Ballmer's $2 billion Intuit Dome. It's a beautiful stadium with fantastic technology and great amenities, but it hasn't been particularly kind to the home team as they're 0-4 at home so far this year while they've won both away games or both games.

The Clippers played Sunday night against the Thunder, who held James Harden in check with 12 points and won 105-92. The Spurs pulled off a surprising win over the Timberwolves, who had a poor showing after arriving late in San Antonio after a late game the night before. The Spurs are still without the services of Devin Vassell and Tre Jones, but if they can get another solid performance from Keldon Johnson, they can pull off another upset and snap their first three-game winning streak of the season and also be on top. 500 for the first time in 2024.

Shams Charania reported that Pop is suffering from an undisclosed health issue and will not be traveling with the team on this road trip. Mitch Johnson will be interim coach during Pop's absence, and he's pretty well prepared for the gig, having done a good job while Coach Pop missed Sunday's game. Hopefully Pop will make a full recovery soon and won't be sidelined for a long period of time.

Match prediction:

Manu Ginobili will come out of retirement to block Harden's buzzer-beater attempt at the end of today's game.

A final word:

Go Spurs GOOOOOO!!
