Brooklyn Nets vs. Memphis Grizzlies Preview: Round Two

This past weekend was very…interesting for the Brooklyn Nets.

If you watched both games, the Nets played pretty similar in their matchups against the Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons. They played hard and had brilliant performances from all cams in every game in the first half. The key difference between the games, however, was that Brooklyn wasn't able to hold up as well as they did against the Bulls last night.

There were other differences too. In the end, the Nets were superior to the Bulls, while the opposite happened against the Pistons.

So now it's all about getting back to .500! Tonight the Nets welcome the Memphis Grizzlies, who they defeated in Memphis just four days ago. It's a meeting again.

Where you can watch the game

Catch the action at 8:00 pm ET on the YES Network.

Injuries

Bojan Bogdanovic (foot), Day'Ron Sharpe (thigh), Trendon Watford (thigh) and Noah Clowney (hip) are out. Ben Simmons is also out for the second game in a row. Nic Claxton will play in full for the first time in a row.

On the Memphis side, Luke Kennard as well as Vince Williams (lower leg), Cam Spencer (ankle), Marcus Smart (ankle), Desmond Bane (oblique) and GG Jackson (foot) are out with a left foot injury. Another year full of injury worries for the Grizz.

The game

In the last duel between these two teams, the Nets emerged victorious even without their man in the middle, Nic Claxton. First, Dennis Schroeder delivered a masterclass against NBA superstar Ja Morant, scoring 33 points and hitting six of nine three-pointers. Ziaire Williams also showed his best against his former team, contributing 17 points off the bench. In the game where tensions were high (Jordi Fernandez won his first-ever tech award), Brooklyn made it in a city where things can't get any darker, says Beale Street.

Today's game will pit Brooklyn against a Grizzlies team that has come out of hibernation (see what I did there). Memphis has won its last two games and has not only been successful lately, but has also dominated the East Coast their trip so far. Against the Bucks, Morant completely took over the game and used his vision to make incredible passes to his teammates. Against the 76ers, big man Jay Huff was the hero, scoring 20 points in 14 minutes off the bench.

To win, the Nets will have to play the long game again. If they can do that, make shots and defend the pick and roll, which will feature a big helping of Morant and the combination of Jaren Jackson Jr. and rookie Zach Edey, the Nets can come out with another W against Memphis.

Players to keep an eye on

Jaren Jackson Jr. has a chance to have a big game if Simmons is out. Without one of our best defenders, Jackson could have a size advantage over whoever decides to take on the challenge, as Claxton or Clowney will be forced to guard Edey. Combined with the fact that he can shoot, tonight will show whether he will actually deliver for his team.

From the safe

Just because I'm not the biggest fan of today being Monday.
