While opening day of women's basketball continues to be busy, the day's secondary got off to an odd start. As No. 17 Louisville prepared to face No. 5 UCLA in Paris, the Cardinals scored a point before the game even began.

Louisville was awarded two free throws early in the game due to a technical foul on UCLA before the game. According to the ESPN broadcast, UCLA was given technical responsibility for failing to deliver a starting lineup on time.

Louisville guard Tajianna Roberts took over the throws, missing the first but getting the second. As a result, the Cardinals started the game 1-0 before the game.

According to NCAA rules, teams must provide referees with the names and uniform numbers of the starting lineup and participating players more than 10 minutes before the start of the game.

The unusual incident then gave way to a relatively typical – but hard-fought – game. The Cardinals finished the first quarter with a five-point lead and trailed UCLA 18-13. But the Bruins pushed back in the second half when guard Londynn Jones drained a last-second three-pointer to give UCLA a 32-29 halftime lead.
