Voter's Guide to Wilmington, NC Elections: Times, Locations, Candidates

Before voters go to the polls on November 5th, there are a few things they should know to ensure a smooth process.

While many in the Wilmington area have already cast their votes through early voting, many are waiting until Election Day.

Here's how to prepare.

When do polling stations open and close?

Polls open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 7:30 p.m. Anyone in line at 7:30 p.m. can still vote.

How do I find my polling station?

The State Board of Elections has a voter locator website that provides each voter with the name and address of their precinct and polling place.

Simply enter your first and last name, year of birth and the county in which you are registered. The information should then load when you are registered.

Do not rely on your voting location from previous elections as some locations have changed this year. New Hanover and Brunswick counties have a list of locations that have changed this year. However, you should contact the location on your registration.

Who is on my ballot?

To see what your ballot looks like and who is on it, scroll down your voter search profile. There you will see a section titled “Your Sample Ballot.” Then click on the PDF sample ballot link to view your options for each race.

You can also learn more about candidates for local, state and national office in our voter guides, available at www.StarNewsOnline.com.

Do I have to wait?

It is possible. With voter turnout reaching record numbers in North Carolina, lines were long, with some waiting an hour or longer. So don't forget to have your driver's license or a valid photo ID ready before you get in line.
