Flash Flood Warning issued for Missouri due to heavy rainfall for several counties

Shannon County, MO – Flash flood warnings are in effect for south-central Missouri this morning as thunderstorms produce heavy rainfall, bringing severe flooding risks to several areas. As of 7:42 a.m., the National Weather Service in Springfield reported rainfall between 2 and 4 inches in portions of Shannon County, with flash flooding expected to intensify. Major cities affected include Birch Tree, Eminence and Summersville.

According to radar reports, the ongoing downpour could overwhelm small streams, urban areas, highways and other low-lying regions. Hazardous conditions are likely at certain intersections with low water levels, including Pine Hollow on Highway E and Big Creek on County Road 390. Residents are advised to avoid flooded roadways and seek alternative routes if conditions worsen.

Local law enforcement reiterated their warnings, emphasizing that “turn over, don't drown” is important advice in such high-risk conditions. Flooding of roads is particularly dangerous in hilly terrain, where crossings are particularly treacherous when water levels are low. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as additional rainfall could increase the risk of flooding later this morning.
