Election 2024: Voters can still register to vote in these states

Although the deadline for eligible residents to register to vote has passed in many states, 22 states and the District of Columbia are offering a final chance to register and vote in the next few days.

However, potential voters at these locations must come in person and bring essential items with them.

Same-day voter registration, which allows a voter to register to vote in person and cast their vote at the same location after their application is approved, has become an increasing option in recent years, according to the United States National Conference of state legislatures Track registration deadlines.

The prospective voter must provide proof of identity and residency in order for their registration to be approved, the NCSL said. In most cases, this would just mean a driver's license, but other additional proof, including utility bills and pay stubs, are also accepted, the NCSL said.

According to NCSL, several states count a ballot as provisional until proper identification is provided or until the voter's application is fully verified.
