NFL power rankings: Eagles, Ravens, Falcons fly up; Packers, Bears and Texans sink before Week 10

The 2024 NFL season has several high-profile teams vying for key playoff spots, but there are also plenty of two-win teams, creating a huge divide between the haves and have-nots.

Some of the league's top Super Bowl 59 contenders showed their best in Week 9, while some midfielders severely limited their chances.

Here's Sporting News' latest look at the hierarchy, from 1-32.

NFL Power Rankings Week 10

Jared Goff Lions 102524

1. Kansas City Chiefs 7-0 (previous ranking: 1)

The Chiefs just continue to get the job done with plenty of offense and defense. Patrick Mahomes is also starting to step up his passing game at the right time to believe the reigning two-time champion can lead the table.

2. Detroit Lions 7-1 (2)

The Lions made an NFC North statement and more by going to Lambeau Field and attacking the Packers with an all-out attack. They remain the team to beat in the conference.

The Bills are making every effort to utilize all of their key weapons around Josh Allen. They will have to continue to lean on their strong offense to offset the massive problems stopping running backs in any way.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers 6-2 (4)

The Steelers are sitting well in the AFC North during their bye as the QB scheme between Justin Fields and Russell Wilson works in fine detail to better support the running game and defense. They will be able to attack their entire six-game divisional slate down the stretch.

Jayden Daniels

5. Washington Commanders 7-2 (7)

The Commanders once again showed their strengths on both fronts against the Giants with their rushing attack and pass rush. Jayden Daniels is locked up again after the rib injury hiccups and is looking like the out-of-control OROY again.

6. Philadelphia Eagles 6-2 (8)

The Eagles didn't have to sweat much with their red-hot offense, despite a few late mistakes, to break through old friend Doug Pederson's Jaguars. They can give Mike McCarthy's Cowboys the knockout blow in Week 10.

7. Baltimore Ravens 6-3 (10)

Lamar Jackson posted a perfect passer rating to continually remind everyone why he is a strong candidate to win his third MVP. He handles the offense so well that he also helped Derrick Henry get into the MVP conversation.

8. Minnesota Vikings 6-2 (9)

The Vikings bounced back from their two-game loss by overwhelming the Colts at home with their swarming defense and Sam Darnold surviving a tough night of clutch passing plays.

Jordan Love Packers 110124

9. Green Bay Packers 6-3 (5)

The Packers' issues with turnovers and general inconsistency on offense cost them a lot of time against the Lions, even though they put in their best efforts on defense to stay in the game.

10. Atlanta Falcons 6-3 (12)

Kirk Cousins did nothing with his suddenly deep receiving corps, reacted well even without Drake London and also achieved great balance through Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier. The defense was also better at bending without breaking compared to Dallas.

11. Houston Texans 6-3 (6)

The Texans faced wide receiver injuries and pass protection issues compared to the Jets. Houston's pass defense is also collapsing, and the pass rush is now a concern for the health of Will Anderson Jr.

12. San Francisco 49ers 4-4 (11)

The 49ers need to get significantly healthier during the bye, with Christian McCaffrey's possible return against the Buccaneers in Week 10 being the most important. They are capable of going strong in the second half and still pushing for first place in the NFC group.

13. Los Angeles Chargers 5-3 (15)

The Chargers still play strong defense and have a good running game. The really dangerous thing is how they've managed to get the downfield passing game into overdrive with Justin Herbert healthy and spot-on.

14. Denver Broncos 5-4 (13)

Bo Nix was ready for the Lamar Jackson fight, but didn't have the same blocking, skill support or experience. The Broncos' defense also collapsed when faced with one of the better offenses. Whatever their final AFC position, it was a positive restart with Sean Payton.

15. Arizona Cardinals 5-4 (16)

The Cardinals are winning big because the running game and defense are in favor of Jonathan Gannon, which puts a lot of pressure on Kyler Murray. They were a pleasant surprise in first place, but might struggle to hold on in a tougher second half of divisional play.

16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 4-4 (17)

The Buccaneers are trying to stay in the game offensively with Baker Mayfield's fearless passing game and a deep backfield, but they are not well positioned to compensate for their major defensive limitations. The Chiefs on the road are a tough draw on Monday night to likely push the Bucs under .500.

17. Los Angeles Rams 4-4 (19)

The Rams are holding out with an improving young defense and plenty of offensive depth for Sean McVay. They're trying to stay hot for another second-half surge after reaching the .500 mark with two big wins.

18. Chicago Bears 4-4 (14)

The Bears have additional growing pains to contend with as Caleb Williams leads some winless road struggles. The pass defense was an asset, but they fell short compared to the run.

MORE: Is Matt Eberflus on the hot seat?

19. Cincinnati Bengals 4-5 (22)

Joe Burrow rolls at a high level and passes all over the field, even when Ja'Marr Chase is quiet and Tee Higgins is unavailable. Given the AFC's shaky position at the bottom of the playoff picture, the Bengals have a real chance because of their QB.

Bengals Joe Burrow 103124

20. Seattle Seahawks 4-5 (18)

Geno Smith can look great at times in the new offense throwing downfield, but when the running game stalls and the defense fails, he can be in real trouble. The Seahawks need to stick with him, but he needs to limit turnovers.

MORE: Is Geno Smith in danger of being benched?

21. Dallas Cowboys 3-5 (20)

The Cowboys went into desperation mode because trick plays weren't working in Atlanta and there was a lot of defensive frustration. Dak Prescott could only do so much before he suffered paralysis. Injuries, coaching and poor execution have led to this dysfunctional disaster.

22. Indianapolis Colts 4-5 (21)

The Colts made a hasty decision to sit Anthony Richardson because they need to be a run-heavy team with him and Jonathan Taylor best complementing the defense. Joe Flacco's chuck-and-duck routine doesn't suit this team.

MORE: Shane Steichen signs on to join Joe Flacco as starting QB despite lifeless performance against Vikings

23. New York Jets 3-6 (30)

The Jets were full of desperation and made all the big plays Aaron Rodgers needed, with their dynamic receiving duo finally living up to expectations. Their defense also had its best game in a long time against Houston, but it may already be too late.

24. Tennessee Titans 2-6 (31)

The Titans are still fighting hard for rookie coach Brian Callahan as they got a spark from Mason Rudolph due to injury. Their defense was surprisingly ahead of the offense in the rebuild.

De'Von Achane

25. Miami Dolphins 2-6 (23)

Tua Tagovailoa has returned, but the passing game is no longer as dangerous and De'Von Achane's running ability has become their best chance to win games on offense. The aging defense also poses a greater burden.

26. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-7 (24)

The Jaguars did their best to give Doug Pederson an improbable comeback win in Philadelphia, but they didn't give Trevor Lawrence enough support and the defense gave up more than it could provide in terms of big plays again.

27. New York Giants 2-7 (26)

Daniel Jones and the offense continue to fight hard despite some limitations beyond rookies Malik Nabers and Tyrone Tracy Jr., but it doesn't mean much if the defense gives up too many big plays because it neglects against the run.

28. Cleveland Browns 2-7 (25)

The Browns got a short-term spark from Jameis Winston, only to experience major disappointment after the Ravens' home win as the Chargers drained all the energy from the Dawg Pound. The clock is now ticking until they can draft their franchise QB.

29. Carolina Panthers 2-7 (32)

The Panthers had to use Bryce Young at QB, and he is showing some flashes on offense with his young weapons. They could have a more positive second half.

30. New Orleans Saints 2-7 (27)

The Saints are in complete free fall as offensive injuries and defensive mistakes continue to plague them during a seven-game losing streak. They are at least in a better position to find the long-term replacement for Derek Carr.

31. Las Vegas Raiders 2-7 (28)

Gardner Minshew has proven to be a bridge to nowhere, appearing on the bench twice for Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder. Aside from some good starts to games, the Raiders are running out of positives.

32. New England Patriots 2-7 (29)

The Patriots appear to have a goalie at quarterback in Drake Maye, as his big plays with his arms and legs will certainly outweigh his tough mistakes in not too long.
