Broncos are being asked to trade RB Javonte Williams and WR Josh Reynolds

Contrary to popular belief, a prominent media outlet believes in the 5:3 Denver Broncos should be sellers, not buyers, at the NFL trade deadline.

Sports Illustrated suggested Tuesday that Denver would send starting running back Javonte Williams and wide receiver Josh Reynolds to the Minnesota Vikings and Buffalo Bills, respectively, for two seventh-round draft picks.

“The Broncos are fighting for a playoff spot and deserve praise.” SIs Matt Verderame wrote. “However, Denver is not a contender and the running back room has been weak all year. The Vikings are now in action in the NFC North and rely heavily on Aaron Jones to carry the ball. Jones, 30, has been great, but Ty Chandler is a mediocre replacement. The change makes sense for both sides.

“Buffalo made a splash before the trade deadline, sending a third-round pick to highlight a package for Amari Cooper. However, the Bills could add another receiver to the group to provide more impact on the outside with Cooper and rookie.” “Keon Coleman does the most damage,” Verderame said. “With Reynolds, Buffalo is getting a seasoned veteran who has played in a variety of systems.”

In the final year of his rookie contract, Williams was largely ineffective this season. He averaged 3.8 yards per carry on a team-high 90 totes while becoming the league's 50th ranked RB Professional football focus. His best game came in Week 7 when he totaled 111 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns.

Trading Williams would save the Broncos about $1.8 million in salary cap space and leave $951,955 in dead money, they say Over the cap.

Reynolds, 29, signed a two-year contract as a free agent from Denver last offseason. The former Lion caught 12 of 19 targets for 183 yards and a touchdown before being placed on injured reserve on Oct. 12 due to a finger complaint. He's also recovering from one Shooting on October 18th this left him with multiple gunshot wounds.

Moving Reynolds would free up $4.5 million in cap space, with $1 million dead per year OTC.

The NFL trade deadline is Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. MT.
