Latest Bears QB news

Things might have gotten worse for the Chicago Bears after their 29-9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

After the game, head coach Matt Eberflus told the media that quarterback Caleb Williams “tweaked” his ankle near the end of the game. Williams went down late in the fourth quarter and was rolled up before walking gingerly to the sideline as the clock ticked down to zero.

“He was limping a little bit there,” Eberflus said, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. “He came in; He seems to be fine.”

Williams confirmed the injury to his ankle but told reporters he was fine. The rookie quarterback had a tough time in the pocket, completing 22 of 41 passes for 217 yards and being sacked six times. Williams was battered and bruised and his status will be updated later in the week. The Bears (4-4) will look to stop their losing streak against the New England Patriots next week.

Caleb Williams injury update

Williams injured his ankle in Chicago's last loss to Arizona, and many wondered why he was still in the game even though he was out of range and had been beaten up all night. Williams told reporters he tweaked his ankle and then grabbed it and rolled the Gator on the next play.

How long will Caleb Williams be out?

It's uncertain whether Williams will be out at some point after suffering an ankle injury in Sunday's final series against the Cardinals. Williams said he's feeling fine, but it's unclear whether that's related to him missing time or whether the team decided to play it safe this week.

Bears QB depth chart

Chicago's backup is Tyson Bagent, a second-year pro and former Division II quarterback who signed as an undrafted free agent and played his way into the backup role as a rookie last year. Bagent would be the starter if Williams ever fails. The Bears also have undrafted rookie Austin Reed on the practice squad, and he would be added to the roster to serve as a backup should Williams be sidelined.
